My expertise includes methods development, and quantitative and qualitative analyses.
Quantitative Analysis
Quantitative analyses involve familiar terms that most of us forget immediately - terms like significant differences, p values, descriptive statistics, statistical inference, and the infamous “mean, median and mode”. There are easy ways to remember terms. Yet we are rarely taught statistics that way.
For instance, the martini glass is a memory jog for a graph. See the letter Y in the martini glass to remember that the y axis is the vertical axis on the left side of a graph. On the bottom of a graph; see the Roman numeral XIV (for the number 14) to remember that the x axis is the horizontal axis; this is also where we display the independent variable (XIV: x = x axis, IV = independent variable).

Qualitative Analysis
Qualitative analysis involves coding narrative data and organizing the codes into coherent themes. A great metaphor for qualitative data analysis is a 1000-word puzzle. Each puzzle piece represents a code. Assembled like a completed puzzle , the codes reveal themes. Too bad the database does not come in a puzzle box that shows the completed puzzle on its cover!
